Nobody told Simón Borrero, "It can't be done" when he was a kid, and if they did, he didn’t listen. This entrepreneur didn’t just dream about changing the way we order food or buy groceries—he made it happen. He founded Rappi with bold determination, convinced that Latin Americans deserve global solutions. What started as a simple delivery app became a super app that does it all, from sending forgotten keys to offering financial services. And the craziest part? He didn’t stop there. In September 2024, he announced that Rappi could go public on the New York Stock Exchange. “Latin America isn’t ready for an IPO this big? Oh, please!” he laughed. Simón doesn’t just build technology—he builds culture. He’s a rebel with a cause, believing in the power of entrepreneurs to change entire nations. The next time you see a delivery worker with an orange backpack, remember Simón—the man who put wheels on change.
Macarena Riva started as a chemical engineer, became a finance expert by circumstance, and an entrepreneur by choice. After working in private equity, she spotted a gap in the beauty market and locked herself in a garage with her business partner, Andrea, hand-labeling artisanal skincare products to sell at bazaars and through e-commerce. At the same time, she built her personal brand on social media, applying a storytelling formula with a clear angle, climax, resolution, and context. In 2024, she became the co-host of Chisme Corporativo, a podcast where she breaks down the moves of the world’s most successful companies in a clear and engaging way—far from the inaccessible jargon of traditional finance. A marathon runner and mother, Maca often compares running to entrepreneurship: both require endurance, embrace discomfort, and, in the end, bring deep satisfaction.
If you think Uruguay only exports soccer and beef, let me tell you about Sergio Fogel—the guy who added “unicorns” to the list. When digital payments in emerging markets were a tangled mess, he didn’t complain—he founded dLocal and turned on the lights. Today, his fintech moves billions, connecting global businesses with consumers across Latam, Africa, and Asia. But this guy didn’t stop there. He also founded AstroPay, Uniotel, and ElAgora.com, because apparently, one revolution wasn’t enough. Oh, and in his free time (yes, he somehow has some), he’s vice president of Endeavor Uruguay and part of Helpers, an NGO that uses technology to save lives. Sergio doesn’t just see the future—he
programs it.
When it comes to sharing gossip and secrets about famous companies, there are few people in Latin America better prepared than Rosa Laura. With a background in consulting at one of the Big Four and venture capital at one of Mexico’s most recognized firms, Rosa Laura launched a foodtech venture right when delivery services were booming in her country and across Latin America, aiming to streamline dark kitchen operations. With all that experience and her recent role as country manager for a premium yet affordable beverage franchise, Rosa Laura is the one we eagerly await every week to share the most significant business moves of recent history, alongside her co-host Maca Riva.
José Vélez is not your typical economist in a suit and tie. Since childhood, his passion for programming led him to challenge the status quo. Before even graduating, he co-founded PagosOnline, which later became PayU, revolutionizing digital payments across Latin America. But José didn’t stop there. In 2018, he founded Bold with a clear mission: to empower Colombia’s small and medium-sized businesses. Today, over 500,000 entrepreneurs have modernized their operations thanks to Bold’s innovative payment solutions. For José, technology is the great equalizer—allowing any business, regardless of size, to thrive in the digital economy. His disruptive mindset and commitment to financial inclusion are redefining the commercial landscape of Colombia.
After years of traveling the world—especially through Southeast Asia—Natalia was blown away by how people in other regions approached their finances. With a career rooted in the fintech ecosystem and a deeply human touch, she has made it her mission to create financial products that empower people to take control of their money. Passionate about animals and committed to sustainability, she goes beyond just financial innovation. Through her regenerative finance strategy at Lulo Bosque, she helps preserve over 70,000 native species in Colombia’s Andean forest, proving that finance and sustainability can grow hand in hand.
Imagine a kid in Monterrey, more interested in his computer than in toys. Alfonso de los Ríos wasn’t playing astronaut or firefighter—he was already programming at 11 years old. And it’s not that he was a nerd (okay, maybe a little), but he saw the world through an engineer’s eyes. When he got to Stanford, he met Maximiliano Casal, and that’s when everything began. In 2018, they founded Nowports, a company that revolutionized logistics through technology. But the most impressive thing isn’t just that he built Latin America’s first LogiTech unicorn—it’s that he did it before turning 25. At that age, some people are still figuring out what to do with their lives! Today, he leads a team of over 700 people across 12 countries. His next goal? Taking Nowports to an IPO. Fear? That word doesn’t exist in his dictionary. Alfonso doesn’t just code—he programs the future.
From the bustling streets of Santiago to the vibrant tech scene of San Francisco, Dani Undurraga has proven that innovation knows no borders. This Chilean software engineer and musician co-founded Cornershop in 2015, revolutionizing how people shop for groceries online across Latin America and beyond. But his entrepreneurial journey started long before that. Dani previously co-founded Needish and ClanDescuento, the latter acquired by Groupon in 2010, marking a milestone in Chile’s startup ecosystem. When Uber took a majority stake in Cornershop in 2019, Dani cemented his status as a pioneer in the world of startups.
Federico Storani isn’t in the game just to throw money around. His strategy is clear: invest in startups that are truly set to break through. From his seat at Riverwood Capital, this financial strategist doesn’t just sign checks—he fuels companies with the potential to transform entire industries. His sharp instincts led him to back InvGate, where he spearheaded a $35 million round to revolutionize IT service management. He’s also involved with Ubits, a platform disrupting corporate education in Latin America. If there’s one thing Federico knows, it’s that raising capital isn’t enough—knowing how to use it wisely is what separates the players from the champions.
Carolina Pineda could craft financial strategies for major corporations, but when it came to managing her own money, it was a different story. A MIT Sloan graduate with experience in fintech and retail, she realized financial education was the missing piece no one was addressing. Alongside her husband, she founded Mis Propias Finanzas, a platform that has helped thousands of people organize their finances, invest wisely, and stop fearing money. As a content creator with over 2 million followers, she’s mastered the art of translating complex financial concepts into simple, accessible tools. Then came MoneyCon, the largest finance event in Colombia’s history, taking financial literacy to a whole new level. Carolina doesn’t want anyone to go through the financial uncertainty she once faced, which is why making money management accessible has become her life’s mission.
When Fabián Gómez Gutiérrez saw how restaurants across Latin America struggled to get fresh, affordable ingredients, he didn’t wait for a solution—he built one. That’s how Frubana was born, a platform that cut out the middlemen and directly linked farmers with businesses, making food arrive faster and cheaper. Before that, Fabián had already mastered speed and scalability while leading Rappi’s expansion across the region. Today, after navigating market challenges and consolidating Frubana in Brazil, he remains obsessed with supply chain efficiency—ensuring that food isn’t just more accessible, but that it reaches the right hands at the right time.
At 11 years old, while most kids were playing, Tomás Bercovich was already looking for seasonal jobs in stores during the holidays. Years later, his entrepreneurial spirit remains unstoppable. This restless Chilean never settled for the traditional path—while others played it safe, he was launching companies like ZhetaPricing, revolutionizing the cinema industry, and Cuponatic, bringing discount e-commerce to multiple corners of Latin America. But his ambition didn’t stop there. With Global66, Tomás is challenging financial borders, giving over 1.5 million users the ability to move their money across the world seamlessly. Operating in seven countries and reaching more than 70 destinations, his goal is clear: to connect 100 million people and 10 million SMEs across the region.
Juan Pablo Zuluaga knew how to manage million-dollar budgets for companies, but when it came to his own money, it was a different story. Despite his education at Babson College and experience in real estate, he realized no one had ever taught him how to handle personal finances. And if he struggled with it despite his opportunities, how were those without financial education supposed to manage? With that question in mind, he founded Mis Propias Finanzas, a movement that has helped thousands take control of their money through investing, budgeting, and smart financial strategies. Then came MoneyCon, the largest finance event in Colombia’s history, proving that talking about money isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Today, Juan Pablo is on a mission to make personal finance simple, accessible, and applicable for everyone.
Ángela Acosta is not just a business leader—she’s a transformative force in Latin America’s beauty industry. After playing a key role in Rappi’s expansion across multiple countries, she set her sights on a sector that impacts millions yet remained largely overlooked in terms of technology and financial access. That’s how Morado was born—a fintech that not only provides beauty products but also offers financial services to women-led businesses, giving them access to credit and growth tools. Determined to fully understand the challenges these entrepreneurs face, Ángela even became a certified manicurist to experience the industry firsthand. Her vision is clear: to digitalize and empower the women who drive the beauty sector, equipping them with the resources they need to achieve economic independence and transform their lives.
From a young age, Freddy Vega knew technology was his thing. At 12, while other kids played, he was already creating his own board game inspired by Pokémon. Without access to a computer, he taught himself to code on a borrowed CASIO calculator. He never let circumstances define his path. He founded Cristalab, a community that became the go-to hub for web design and development in Spanish. But he didn’t stop there. Alongside Christian Van Der Henst, he launched Platzi, an educational platform that has transformed the lives of over 5 million students across Latin America. Freddy didn’t just democratize tech education—he shattered barriers, leading the first Hispanic company to be accepted into Y Combinator. With studies at Harvard, INSEAD, and Stanford, this Bogotá native keeps proving that with determination and passion, empowering new visionaries with access to knowledge and opportunities doesn’t just change individual lives—it changes the world.
